This year’s 25th anniversary event will be held at 7 p.m. at Kaumakapili Church, 766 N King St in Honolulu. For event details, see the related calendar item.

The day commemorates the anniversary of the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, a 1993 public apology by the United Church of Christ to Na Kanaka Maoli at Iolani Palace and Kaumakapili Church, and a 1993 U.S. apology to Native Hawaiians made in Public Law 103-150. Ho’oku’ikahi Day has been commemorated each year since 1993. In 2014, the State Legislature resolved that January 17 of every year be recognized as Ho’oku’ikahi Day.
